Hey everyone! Here’s a nibble-sized update on my writing journey.
Short Story Magazine Submissions
Guess what? My weird little horror flash fiction piece Please Try an Jalapeno Corn Dog was accepted at Flash Fiction Magazine! They said they were excited to publish it and it made my entire month. The story should be up on their website in a few weeks!
The Trenches
Writers tremble in fear of agent submissions for a reason. Sending queries out into the void and hoping the void screams back is a looong waiting game. A true test of sanity. But getting a novel traditionally published has been a big dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and so here at headquarters, I’m doing the best I can to distract myself in the meantime.
What novel am I querying right now?
Let me introduce you to my adult paranormal thriller We All Hate It Here, for fans of the tropes The Sadistic Ghost Used to be a Cinnamon Roll and The Badass Girl has a Unfortunate Crush on her Pet Project. If you liked If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio or Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo, this story is right up your alley.
Other Projects
I’m cooking up a little experiment in my Laboratory of Weird Ideas for a newsletter series documenting a fictional city where the hero and villain are unknowingly dating each other. The newsletter would go out once a week and include a newspaper article of the hero/villain’s battles, then text messages from the hero’s phone as he deals with hero duties AND having a big crush on the quiet boy at the animal shelter with the grumpy cat and many, many plants.
This one is still simmering, but the pairing will be:
Sunshine hero who’s always smiling BUT there’s not a single light in his eyes
and
Grumpy villain with no smiles BUT is actually the emotionally stable one
I’m planning to create a detailed sketch of the “First Season” before releasing, but once it’s ready, there’ll be an email sign up to receive the weekly episodes.
